Settings not saved migrating from localhost to remote server

Hello, I’ve been configuring a wordpress install on my localhost and today tried to upload it to the remote server. The upload went fine but when I navigated to the webpage the first time it brought up the installation screen, instead of just working with all my settings and plugins configured the way the were on localhost. I exported from Tools->Export on the local version and imported to the remote but that didn’t add my settings, only a few test posts I had made.

There must be a way to migrate from local to remote without losing settings and having to reconfigure everything. This is probably a basic question but I’ve tried search here and on google and haven’t come up with anything. Thanks for your time.
