WP Requests FTP Access?

  • Tried to update WP to newest version, when I do I get:
    “To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access to your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host.”

    It then asks for my host name, username and password to connect to the server.

    I’ve never seen this…it also does it if I try to install a Plugin.

    Is this a legitimate request or has something gone wrong?

    Thanks for the response. I manage many WP sites and have never seen this before.

    What is the cause and is there no way around it? Since I’ve never encountered it before on any other site I find it odd that this one is asking for it.

    The requirement to enter FTP login credentials each time appears to be server-specific and is probably due to the server’s configuration.

    If you haven’t figured it out yet you have to go to Configure PHP and SuExec in your WHM panel if you are using Linux hosting with WHM/Cpanel and change your handlers. You have to change both PHP 4 and PHP 5 to SUphp. This will fix your issues in your .htaccess file. This took me a whole day to figure out ?? But I have a blog farm and wasn’t able to mass update causing serious problems. Hope this helps.

    I am having a problem with my site. I am using third-syle word press theme developed by Paomedia for my website.
    I wanted to added slide show plugin all xili-floom-slideshow in the header. I activitated the plugin and added this code: xilifloom_theme_header() in the functions.php. of the theme. I click update. Now the website has completeky crash. Its shows:
    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_IF in /home/octavi/globalunificationthegambia.org/wp-content/themes/third-style/functions.php on line 47

    I can not even login to wordpress, deactivate this plugin or change the theme.

    Can anybody please help me out?
