Remove menus/modules from dashboard according to user role?

Hi, Im currently looking for a way to control what each user role has control over beyond simply choosing Editor, Author, etc…

Id like for my users to still be able to edit posts created by other members as well as add links, etc. – However I DONT want them to have any access to the pages menu at all…id like to eliminate it completely depending on what their role is. Theres also a couple plugins that Id like to completely hide from Editors as well.

Anyone know if this is possible through a custom function? Id prefer avoiding the use of additional plugins.
