I’m using the zBench theme and it has pre-set widgets:

    Blogroll
    Archives
and then Archives and Blogroll in a combined box.

How do I remove these so that I can add my own widgets/plugins?

I am new to CSS editing so any idiot-proof instructions would be gratefully received!

  • ‘normally’ you only need to drag you own widgets into the widget area,
    ‘dashboard’ ‘appearance’ ‘widgets’
and the ‘theme’ widgets should dissappear automatical.

that theme seems to have (at least) three widget areas – drag your own choice of widgets into each of those; or if possible, drag existing widgets out from the widget areas.

    Thanks for your reply!

Unfortunately these existing widgets don’t appear in the widget sidebar area to remove or move. They seem to be built into the zBench themes sidebar.php and style.css.

I’m guessing I will need to edit one of these but I’m not sure which one and which code to remove.

I think you are possibly new to wordpress. You dont need to edit any code. Just add widgets. They should remove existing ones automatically in frontend.
