[Plugin: Random / Rotating Ads V2] Add Tracking Code to individual rotating banner ads

I want to be able to track click throughs on the banner ads I have set on the site, but aside from adding the google analytics tracking code I do not have much experience in doing this.

I am assuming I would need to add the tracking code around the image and href link. But not sure what that tracking code looks like.
something like this? = <button onclick=”_gaq.push([‘_trackEvent’, ‘button3’, ‘clicked’])”/><button>

or = <a onclick=”_gaq.push([‘_trackPageview’, ‘/vpv/banners/banner1/event/name-of-event’]);”
href=”event.html” >BANNER
if it is the second though, will I need a specific .js file enabled on the site?
