Hi people, I’ve finished bulding my first wordpress website and I find myself in deep waters now that I need to move everything to the root folder. What I mean is that my current wordpress website is https://www.clorinde.org/wordpress and I want it to be https://www.clorinde.org
I’ve looked for advice and tutorials but I’m not sure what steps to take. I know I can move the files from the wordpress folder in my html folder but I’m afraid all the links and images and all the rest will get affected… Any help will be very much appreciated!

    Many Thanks.

    Andrea

Actually there is a huge section in the WordPress codex dedicated to that topic: Moving WordPress.

Have you tried that already? Or have you encountered any problems?

Hi Daniel, thanks for your reply, yeah I’ve read that page I’m ok with the moving files part and the change of wordpress and blog address but:
    But 10, 11 and 13 make a bit worried…

10.If you are using Permalinks, go to the Administration > Settings > Permalinks panel and update your Permalink structure to your .htaccess file, which should be in the same directory as the main index.php file.
11.If you have problems with missing images that you’ve uploaded, you need to change the path to the images on every post directly on your SQL database. For this, follow the instructions on Tamba2’s Tutorial “Moving your weblog inside your PC”.
13.Existing image/media links uploaded media will refer to the old folder and must be updated with the new location.

The thing is that all my photo galleries and music players and pictures on pages refer to the content located in the wordpress folder and I fear that after I move everything to the root I’ll have to re-do all the links and galleries, well basically everything…

You think I could leave the content there and just move the pages?

Ah, I see. Unfortunatly I have no experience in moving WordPress to a different folder. While watching the recommended tutorial in step 11 it seems to be a little bit tricky. But the database renaming can be done with a little application, so if you have experiences with phpMyAdmin and MySQL I would give it a try. If I correctly understand the extract you have given, this seems to be a problem which does not necessarily need to occur.

A workaround would be to change the path of your upload folder to the old place after you have moved your WordPress blog. This can be done in the media settings section in the backend.

Hopefully you will get further comments on this topic from someone who has already collected some experiences regarding these problems. Creating a backup of your database as well as of your WordPress files before your try to move your blog will be a good idea I guess…

Sorry for not beeing a help at all :/

If anyone could throw some light on this one though it would really help me:
10.If you are using Permalinks, go to the Administration > Settings > Permalinks panel and update your Permalink structure to your .htaccess file, which should be in the same directory as the main index.php file.

In particular I don’t seem to be able to change anything…
    This one is selected:

I believe after I move everything in the root folder the /wordpress should go, but how?

    What a headache…
