I just upgraded several of my websites that are running wordpress to WordPress 3.1. Now when I go to create new Post or Edit an old Post, several Post settings have disappeared on most of these websites but not all of them. I am running different themes for different websites. For example I am running the News theme by DevPress on one website. I do not see any problems in the post settings on that website. On another website I am running the wpFolio by wpfeed.com. When adding or editing a Post on the site, the Post Settings, Excerpt, Send Trackbacks, Customer Fields, Discussion, and Author sections are missing below the Post content area. There are several other websites that I am operating that are also having this problem.

  • Look at the “Screen Options tab. that controls what is shown on the Post page.

Cool. I glanced over the part about new meta boxes feature. I am glad they are still there. Now my question would be why is that Quickie Metaboxes feature not working on the website with News theme then?

THANK YOU!! What a great option, but why the hell did it do that automatically after upgrade…

It reset you to the news defaults if you’ve never changed your settings.

Amusingly, people would have bitched no matter which way they went on that one.

Thanks a lot. I’ve wasted so much time trying to figure out, never thought the solution would be so easy.

    Thanks.

Would have been nice to have a notice or warning about this.

Yea a warning or default = no change to my interface would have saved me a mini heart attack. I thought I botched something with the upgrade!

    Whew.

I was surprised by this change – but after learning about it, not a big deal. However, I have a new issue – the checkbox to SHOW the excerpt box is missing … thought maybe it was an issue with the theme I was using, but after activating TwentyTen, same result.

I have the option to show / hide the excerpt box on Posts … but not on Pages. Was this intended? Why would a page not need an excerpt?

I am sure I can figure something out – but if there’s a reason Pages don’t have excerpts – let me know. And if there’s a way to get Page excerpts back, I’d appreciate the info.

    Thx

Many boxes are missing on my screen options page. The “SEND TRACKBACKS” and “EXERPT” are the most important to me, and they are nowhere to be found.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you.
