• Just upgraded today to 3.1 and am interested in switching to the new post format structure. I currently have different post types managed by categories. Is there a way to set post formats in bulk? There doesn’t appear to be a way using the Dashboard but I was thinking maybe there’s a way by editing the MySQL database.

  • I haven’t tried it so I can’t confirm it will work, but this plugin might help: https://sillybean.net/code/wordpress/convert-post-types/

My understanding is that post formats are simply a taxonomy, so they should show up on that plugin (it lists all post types and taxonomies). You would select “Convert from Post to Post, limit to category X, assign post format Y”.

Make sure to backup your database before you do this in case something goes wrong.

Nice I’ll check that out. I ended up modifying the MySQL database directly in phpMyAdmin by running a find and replace on the taxonomy values. Seems to me that a batch change feature needs to be added to the core WordPress package. You can reassign categories in bulk through the dashboard interface and this would be nice as well.
