Adding users is not working correctly – need help please

I have a mu enabled site ready to go, and I need to add the 5300 users to it as easily as possible. I have tried a couple plugins and have had moderate success…Batch Create did not work, simple import users did – well sortof.

Right now, mysql has 256 DBs set up with no tables in them, the WP admin says I have 391 users created, I can manually add users one at a time, but not through plugins anymore. Because 256 is a ‘magic’ number in computing – do you know if there is a setting or configuration that needs to be changed in either the WP admin, apache or phpMyAdmin, or even mysql?
