• Hi! im having trouble with my wordpress… hmm… apparently
    let me sum things up…

Problem: Internal Server Error – in all pages

Changes made: (mistakenly,) in the first field at options>permalink I put ‘/?’

Then: upon clicking ‘update permalink structure’ Internal Server Error came up

1st thing done: Firstly, I deleted all the texts inside the .htaccess
Result: it worked well, I can view the pages again.
Then: went back to edit my permalink structure, this time i put the correct one
But: upon click update button, same thing happened – Internal Server Error

2nd thing done: Copied and pasted model rewrite rules from wordpress.
    Result: worked well again.
Then: went back to edit my permalink structure, this time i put the correct one again
But: upon click update button, same thing happened – Internal Server Error

I think I made myself as vivid as possible above ^_^

Ok. A minute later the fellow named euio has solved his own problem.

for those who may encounter the same trouble. make this your reference…

solution: upon clicking ‘update permalink structure’ the Internal Server Error comes out, dont close that window or go anywhere. The next thing you do is empty the .htaccess (as in delete the texts inside) via File Manager or FTP. Save it. Next, go back to the browser with internal server error page and refresh. A message prompts and click ‘yes’ if im not wrong…

result: the page refreshes and will show a highlighted notice saying update is complete…

lesson to be learned: don’t make stupid mistakes like mine…

I was just coming here to post regarding this when I saw your thread– the exact thing happened to me, WordPress didn’t clear out the existing content of .htaccess merely tacked onto the end of the file and I got the same Server Error message you did. Once I removed the original entry everything was working with the new permalink structure.

I would hope this is something that was corrected in the next version – or if it is uncorrectable (it happens) then I think warnings should be given explaining the consequences.

    Thank you, that helped me!
And i agree “don’t make stupid mistakes like mine…” !
