Can't Install Themes

I’m not a newbie but still don’t know why this happens to me too.

I’ve managed to solve similar plugin problems in the past by deleting the “upgrade” folder and recreating it, changing permissions as I go (a pain, still, which has often lead to re-installs..). But this doesn’t seem to work for themes, nor does changing permissions for the wp-content folder. While there may be a specific hosting problem, there does seem to be a number of others experiencing the same thing so I wonder if something can be done..

I would imagine this is a permissions issue. Do you have the same issue uploading themes via FTP?

I have tried setting all the permissions to 777 but unless it uses some buried folder that doesn’t work either. In any case, why would it try and create /public_html??!

If I use ftp or the hosting file manager, no problem. It’s just a lot more convenient not to have to find the theme page (more difficult than with plugins), download it and upload it to the server…

Thanks for the thought, though! It may well be something to do with permissions. Though probably with something else…with plugins, for example, there is a fix which involves deleting the wp-content/upgrade folder and re-creating it, changing the permissions. That usually works…(though sadly not for themes, it seems!)
