• If this is possible, please let me know, but at this point, with so many iterations of WP, it would be really nice to be able to limit the results of plugin searches here to only show plugins that are compatible with whatever version range you happen to be looking for. There are fields listed in the plugins pages such as ‘Requires WordPress Version’ and ‘Compatible up to’ which would be great to be able to utilize while searching for plugins that you could use on whatever version of WP you happen to be running.

This is on the rather long wish list for WP.

The problem is that just because a plugin says it’s only tested up to 2.6 doesn’t mean it’s not compatible with 3.1 :/ It’s hard to find a way to provide valid results with that in mind.

Use the data that is there, such as “only compatible” up to 2.5, with the understanding that maybe it’s not always 100% accurate for your usage requirements. Or, at least have to option to use the compatibility feedback field for searches. A plugin already lists info such as 31 people say it works with WP 3.1 and 3 people say it doesn’t, to display the little boxes like “Works!” or “Not Enough Data”. Sure, it’s not a guarantee, but data is there that could help narrow down searches.

*hand waggle* The problem is that those aren’t actually all that accurate. Not every dev updates the readme with the new versions, if no changes are needed for their plugin.

This has been argued back and forth for ages, and there’s no solution that satisfies enough people to claim ‘Majority!’ and move on :/
