How can I do these things with a theme? (Remove text, etc)

  • Hi!

    I am planning to buy this theme: https://www.templateaccess.com/wpdemos/wp127/

    But before I do, I want to be sure I can do the following things…

    1. Remove the sidebar

    2. Remove everything below the slideshow on the home page

    3. Remove the slideshow on all pages buy the homepage, and have text on the other pages.

    Sorry for the terrible title, there are many things I would like to do.

    You can do anything you want with any theme, the problem is understanding another’s code to do it. Depending on how it’s coded it might simply take some time to figure out.

    Actually in that theme it is not a sidebar but called a right column.
    You need to ask the theme creator those questions. Buying a commercial theme and then coming here for assistance will not usually be very satisfactory.

    I guess I will try to stay in contact with the creator.

    I am a bit nervous buying this theme, as I have only used free WP themes. May I still use these forums for help with this theme, provided I provide code?

    Although the forum does not support commercial themes sometimes someone will help you. Maybe most of the time would be more correct.

    As long as it is a WP problem and not a theme problem there shouldn’t be a problem. But I am speaking as just a member who stops by ever so often.

    Those are theme questions. Unless someone is using the same theme it would be a WAG to answer them. I would say you can but it most likely will require php and css work. BTW, if the creator does not respond or have a forum or whatever, do not buy that theme. Use the money for an ice cream sundae instead.

    For example, since the sidebar is actually a column once removed you will have to increase the width of the other column(s). I don’t know about removing a “column” but removing a sidebar normally is pretty easy to do with just deleting a line of code in several php files.

    But before I do, I want to be sure I can do the following things…

    Depends on how much knowledge or in the lack thereof, how much experimenting you are up to.

    Myself, there is no reason to pay big bucks for a wp theme. There are too many out there that are free or inexpensive that can do whatever you want to do.
