Cannot Edit Posts

  • Hello. It used to be so simple: Sign in to my site, click edit under the post I wanted to, say, change narrative on (my site is Roman coins, a post consisting of photos of the coin and brief narrative), be taken to the edit page, delete/add words, click update, and done. Now can’t edit. When I get on the edit page and set the cursor at the end of a word or phrase to delete the page either jumps just a tad, or lets me delete and add, but on clicking update (and I get a message saying post updated)the change I made does not appear. It’s stayed the same. Help! I’m not a computer expert by any means. There must be something, I hope, SIMPLE going on that’s easily corrected. Any help much appreciated. Kim

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

    Hi, Theme Diva, and thanks. I did deactivate the plugins, but no luck. I updated my Constructor something (forgot now) theme, but that messed up my emperor navigation bar at the side (alphabetized it from its chronological order, which I prefer). But the updated Constructor theme didn’t solve the edit problem. I activated the Twenty Ten theme, but the nav bar disappeared and an archival list of my posts appeared in its stead. But I do LIKE the look of the theme! But, alas, I still can’t edit. The other suggestions you mentioned I frankly and ashamedly do not know how to do. Kim

    See the link I gave for resetting the plugins folder. You can also re-upload the wp-admin and wp-includes using FTP (or whatever file management application your host provides). Learning how to use these tools is, I’m afraid, part & parcel of running a web site. The sooner you learn how to use them, the better.

    You might also want to contact your hosts and ask if there are any problems with your database or their database server.

    How do I get my old Constructor back? That had my top of the page map of the Roman Empire and my nav bar the way I wanted? Kim

    Re-upload a fresh copy of the theme using FTP.

    Ah, forget it. I can’t find the old constructor. Now I’ve got a host of problems. Oh well, what I get for presuming to enter the world of the experienced experts.

    Thanks for creating a host of new problems. I could understand the deactivation of plugins because that’s simply done. But suggesting I change to the Twenty Ten theme without telling me that I’d lose my old theme with the nav bar just right, etc., was really something. I can’t recover my old theme, which was an older version of Constructor. The new version screwed up everything. I was a teacher for 32 years, and your condescension would never make it in teaching.
