Select query for sorting categories

    Wondering if anyone has a solution to this..I feel like I’ve almost bumped into it a few times trawling the forums, but no definite answer yet.

    If I had the categories ‘Jack Kerouac’, ‘Allen Ginsberg’, and ‘Gary Snyder’ is there a way to sort them so that the categories (these people) were ordered by their surname, rather than first name? ie. a select query that would read the second word of the slug, perhaps? Rather than:

    Allen Ginsberg
    Gary Snyder
    Jack Kerouac

    I would get:

    Allen Ginsberg
    Jack Kerouac
    Gary Snyder
