wp-ecommerce shopping cart errors

  • I am currently doing a project at university creating an ecommerce website using wordpress. Im using the wp-ecommerce plugin. I have encountered a problem when using the shopping cart widget.

    When pressing the add to cart button I am faced with the following error:

  • if i was you mate i would go with something else. although wp ecommerce is supposedly ‘the most popular ecommerce plugin’ – if you look around on the web you will find people with every problem you can think of and if you look on their forums you will find each of those questions with no answer. if you then look at their docs youll find a whole bunch of conflicting information and its a complete ball ache.

    im checking out yak tonight. wp ecommerce tries to come across as free but the free code doesnt work properly for downloadable products at least and they try and get you to buy the gold cart stuff. thats the idea i think. the support is awful. id check out other options. eshop, yak and about 10 others are available.

    btw your problem is with ups.php – i take it you might have already paid for extra shipping options because it doesnt come with that as standard i think.

    ah i have been struggling with the whole wp-ecommerce stuff. Spent round hours messing about with the stylesheets just to make the widgets look presentable. It a nightmare.

    But no i havent paid for any of the extra add on’s, i had it working before however its just completely give up on me.

    Was just hoping to find a solution through here rather than having to spend even longer messing on with stylesheets from another e-commerce plugin.

    I may look into the other ecommerce options unless i have a sudden breakthrough in fixing the error! ahh

    ohhhhh mate i know how you feel ??
    spent ages going through the widget css file to find most of it doesnt do nothing to the widget and its all in main.css – thank god for web dev toolbar and firebug thats all i can say.

    probably be quicker to backup everything deactivate and then activate again. remove all the css out of your theme and copy somewhere else, then assuming its worky with default install. start adding what you changed back until you figure out what it was. although looking at that error doesnt seem like a css error.

    actually what am i saying. probably quicker to pay a few hundred and have something decent ??

    or use an open source system that works and has docs.

    ive been doing the thing using the inspect element feature on chrome try and decipher the css.

    Ive been considering just reinstalling the plugin however trying to avoid all the hassle. cos to be honest i really cannot be bothered with having to go through all that haha

    May just make copies of the themes css and do that..

    Trying to think of anything ive changed, the only things i can think of is i edited the main php function file a page file to allow multiple sidebars. But thats the only thing ive edited. But im not sure if that could have caused the problem..

    There no chance im paying for anything, not for the sake of assignment haha. Is there anyway you can reset the settings for the plugin, the chances are that ive got something checked that shouldnt be which is causing this whole problem..

    Im just hoping some wordpress e-commerce/php genius will notice my post and will be solve this mess. Otherwise looks like im going through the tedious process of removing the plugin blah blah blah. God help me..

    ive just checked out yak and it immediately threw an error and looks a bit horrible. i want a ajax like cart that looks cool. going to ask shopp if they do what i want.

    why dont you just replace functions.php then ?
    back it up first and see if thats what caused the error.
    ups is shipping isnt it? > turn off all shipping as well see if that sorts it.

    im no php genius but ive been hacking this for two weeks solid now.
    im just a muso trying to make a site to sell his tunes.

    so yaks no good? ive tried what i said above and im still getting an error. May create another wordpress account and start fresh with the same theme.

    Found any other option for free e commerce yet which doesnt make you want to kill yourself!? haha

    im erring towards shopp right now, awaiting whether they can do what i want. that or possibly eshop. yak is good actually its open source and i like the dev from what ive read of him. it just doesnt look flashy enough for what i want. think the error it threw was some config thing about not setting up gateways first… i might buy shopp then hang myself with the packaging hehehe ??

    yeah best thing is to start from scratch then slowly put in what you had before. well best thing is to use summat else i reckon ??
    did you try disabling shipping as well ?

    better go and lie down its way past yesterdays bedtime!

    is shop free? ive completely given up on wp-ecommerce. its removing itself of my server as we speak…

    Couldnt you have just played round with yaks css to give it a more flashy look? or was it just the way it was structured in the main code?

    Think its getting to the point where im just gna leave this till another day and just chill out. This is driving me mad. Sick of constantly updating and deleting files of the server back and forth, getting confused which files are which.

    no its 55 for the basic version *dollar
    then you need to add gateways at 25 each
    im down to shopp and eshop right now
    there may be others though….

    well, i got yak working and it seems ok now. it looks like a pile of doggy doo, doesnt have any flashy ajax updating n stuff but it works and looks a lot more organised support wise.
