Removing Ads and Editing Sidebar in free theme

Hi all,

I got a new free theme recently and am having trouble editing it. It’s set to have ads in teh sidebar, but i really don’t want ads on my site. I dont know what to look for in the sidebar.php and I’m not even sure thats the right place to find teh script to remove. I’ve also heard that the maker of the theme can hide the ad info elsewhere in the code so what terms should i be looking for if this is the case?
