Limiting text on main blog page

My blog is theentertainmentart.info/blog. I’m currently looking for a way to limit the amount of text shown on the front page of my blog. I want just a snippet to be seen, then if you click on the title you’re lead to the entire article. I’ve tried implementing some other people’s code, but it always limits the text on the front page of my blog and the text on the actual article’s page rather just the front page. I don’t know why it is doing this. I am new to wordpress, and I’m not sure if this has to do with the archives.php file * which I haven’t really set up .. not sure how to *.
