• Hi,
I have domain (domain1.com) and installed wpmu on its sub domain (subdomain.domain1.com) and configure it using “folder” option, when it ask while configuring wp for multisite. and create a site on it subdomain.domain1.com/site. I also register another domain (domain2.com)
now I want to use domain mapping from this -subdomain.domain1.com/site to this- domain2.com. For mapping i use ip address, and i get my ip address from my domain’s A record.
but when i open subdomain.domain1.com/site it goes to domain2.com but show the default page and the url is something like domain2.com/defaultwebpage.cgi

    Now my questions are
    1) I am using shared hosting, is it work on shared or not,
    2) if possible on shared, then is it good to go for ip address instead of cname for domain mapping
    3) domain1.com and domain2.com both are on the same hosting, so ip address will be same for both domains, is it creating the problem
    4)I create a cname – name-domain2..com value-www.domain2.com, is it the problem
    5) I add a A record to it name-domain2..com value-ip address ( ip address which i got from domain1.com’s A record, is it the problem.

I try my best to explain the problem.
    Any help ….

  • 1. it depends on the host and what you;re doing on the web account o get the mapped domain pointing to the right folder
    2. yes
    3. no. i’ve mapped hundreds of domains to ONE IP address. Adfter all, this is the basis of how shared hosting works.

your problem is likely you are not directing the mapped domain to the wordpress install on the server side. If you had cpanel, I’d tell you to park it.

    thanks for reply,
    1) my hosting is under resellerclub,

And its done but when i open subdomain.domain1.com/site it goes to domain2.com, and show the website which is on domain1.com, instead of subdomain.domain1.com/site.

Yes I have cpanel access, but can’t got your point ‘If you had cpanel, I’d tell you to park it.’ because if i use domain parking it will go to root domain.

if you are on me, is it possible to do thing step by step or the thing i am doing wrong.

Then don’t park them. Use the add-on domain feature, and change the folder it uses to the one where wordpress is installed.

but i have not add on domain feature, in my cpanel under domains i have only three options, 1) subdomains, 2)redirects, 3) parked domains.

    Any Suggestion…

Usually this is something your host allows. Ask them about making a serveralias.

If not, you;re out of luck and will need to find a host where you can do this.

Ok, but Isn’t there another option.

Yes, but your host doesn’t seem to give it to you, so there’s not much we can do to help you.

ASK them. It doesn’t hurt, and YOU are PAYING these people. It’s okay to ask ??

Ok, thanks for opinion, I’ll do it.

no use, they said- domain addon is not supported.
    very bad time.

then look for a new host or put multisite in the root. those are your only options.
