Popular posts not showing up

I am building a new site and am in process of manually transferring hundreds of posts from an older site over, including all the “views” to date for each post. However the “WordPress Popular Posts” plugin (being used as a sidebar widget) is not picking up on the “views” and says “Sorry. No data so far.” How can I get the widget to recognize the views I am manually inputting as a custom field? Thanks!
