question about upgrading NextGen Gallery

When doing the automatic upgrade for the NextGen Gallery plug-in (via the wordpress dashboard) what files are replaced and what databases are changed? Trying to figure out what was lost during the upgrade so we can find a previous state of our site to have the hosting service restore.
