[Plugin: WordPress File Monitor Plus] Cause 500 Internal Server Error

  • Hi,

    My WordPress Version: 3.1.2.
    My website is hosted on Super Green Hosting.

    I installed WP File Monitor Plus Plugin and it was successful.

    After installing I first updated the version of the plugin.

    Then I configured the Plugin and the setting were saved successfully.

    After configuring, I clicked on “Perform Manual Scan Now”.

    After some time my website through me an “500 Internal Server Error” both in the admin and front end .

    Then I FTP to my website and renamed the plugin folder and I refreshed the page. My website started working.

    As my website was live, I uninstall the plugin.

    This plugin provides excellent security and recommended by many.
    Hence, I wish to use the plugin on my website but its is causing a problem.

    Please could any one help me out?

    Its urgent.

    What version of PHP are you running?

    Did the plugin work before updating?

    Also can you show what settings you currently have set? If you don’t want them public you can email me them. Find my email in the copyright section of my plugin code

    Hi Scott,

    Thank you for replying.

    PHP Version – 5.2.8.

    This is the first time I installed the plugin.

    When I installed the plugin, I did not activate it immediately.

    I first updated the plugin and then activated the plugin.

    Then I configured the Plugin.

    Then I clicked on “Perform Manual Scan Now” and that is the time I encounter the problem.

    Does this plugin require certain parameters of PHP to be enabled??

    The only requirement that I know this plugin needs is PHP5 which you have.

    Please send me your settings so I can check you have it configured correctly.

    Have you enabled WordPress Debug mode to see if WordPress reports any errors about my plugin?

    Configuration setting as:

    Cron Method: WordPress Cron

    File Check Interval: Manual

    Data Save Method: Database

    Notify By Email: Yes

    From Email Address: [my email id]

    Notify Email Address: [my email id]

    Admin Alert: Yes

    File Check Methods: ( All 3 options are checked )

    File Size, Date Modified, File Hash

    File Check Root: [ Same as the default path ]

    File Names To Ignore: [ blank ]

    Dir Names To Ignore: [ blank ]

    Exact Files To Ignore: [ blank ]

    Exact Dirs To Ignore: [ blank ]

    500 Internal Server Error is thrown by Apache Web Server.

    When 500 Internal Server Error is displayed, WordPress will not be able to display any error, as Apache has already delivered an error page.

    Some PHP code caused Apache Web Server to crash.

    Anything from WordPress debug mode?

    try save method as file instead of DB.
    Try un-ticking all the file check methods for now and see if a manual scan works.

    The same thing happened to me on performing an initial manual scan, but I just got a long hang, much too long for the amt of traffic we have. Trashed the plugin folder to bring the site back, looked at php error log and got:
    PHP Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded…
    Will try save method of file instead.
