User Roles after merge?

I’ve been looking to bridge my WordPress page with my phpbb3 forum for a while now. If this plugin is as great as everyone’s saying, then this will be something that the world will appreciate ??

I did want to find out a few things before attempting the install:

Since the login/registering is done through phpbb, what becomes of the WordPress user status? Does everyone automatically become a WordPress “subscriber” upon phpbb account creation? Can certain people still be chosen to have a different status, like Admin or Contributor?

I really need to bridge my wordpress and phpbb but also need to be sure that people will still be able to do what they did on the WordPress site from before the bridge.
