• Hi all, good to see all the help and inspiration going on.

I’ve been playing with the Arras theme for the past month after letting Good theme sit idly doing not much. This is the perfect match for what I provide; a magazine format for news and articles on all aspects of design and design culture.

    The site is firesnake.com
Please let me know what you think.

    The layout is pretty standard as far as tweaking goes, but I do have a lot of plugins such as;

    WP Google Fonts
    Wordpress Mobile Pack
    Latest Twitter Sidebar
Lightbox 2 (which I’ve yet to fully use)
    All In One SEO
    Bookmarkify
    Feedburner
    Flickr RSS
Moon Phases (you may ask why…)
    MailChimp
    PayPal Donations
    Big Cartel Integration
    Photospace Gallery (not needed yet)

I’ve also been busy setting up a few widgets with ads such as image based Google Ads, Amazon eStore, Clickbank referral links, along with extras like a Creative Commons footer (to replace the copyright text) and the 2D barcode generator to help users to snapshot any page.

Any comments or suggestions very welcome!

    Thanks, Ben.

  • Hiya Ben!

Checked out your site…LOVE IT! I think you’ve done a great job so far. Very focused content. Lots of variety.

    Well done!

I wish u the best and good luck!

It’s alright. Could use a bit more customization from the template you used.

    Hi all,

Shirley – thanks for that, much appreciated! I try to update only when there is something of depth and quality to write about (with exception of the free MP3s). So my output isn’t prolific as others – is this something that will keep me in good stead in the future, well I hope so…quality over content.

I aim to get 4-5 articles out a week while I’m also running my graphic design business (eats up looots of time) but plan on upping that to 1-2 posts a day.

FECKcorp, appreciated aswell. I have tweaked a few subtle areas like header size / copyright footer / comments and toyed with Google fonts and page specific sidebars but reverted quickly.

The thing is this theme matched what I wanted straight out of the box- magazine style with Black, white, grey and red, clean fonts and lots of customization just in case. We’ll see.
