• I’m currently using the Twenty Ten WordPress theme on my testing server and I would like to know how to remove all the widgets from the site.

Currently, in my administration panel, in the Widgets section, there are no widgets applied to my site. However, when I view the site, the Archives, Search, and Meta widgets are displayed. The strange thing is, if I, in my administration panel, add a widget to my site, all of the other widgets on the site will disappear.

What I would like is to be able to remove all of the widgets from the site, so that the sidebar is completely empty.

    Is this possible to do?

    Thanks,
    Blake

  • You are currently seeing the default content of the sidebar.php template file. This content could be removed by editing the file but be warned that your changes will be over-written the next time you upgrade WordPress. For this reason, it is recommended that you consider creating a child theme for your customisations.

Cool. Thank you for the quick response.

drag an empty textwidget into the widget area; that would give the impression of an empty sidebar.

or edit sidebar.php and remove the static spaceholder code.

    Hey, that worked. Thank you!

I have another question, though. I noticed while reading the style.css for the Twenty Ten theme that it has a one-column format; however, I can only figure out how to apply that format to my static pages. Is there a way to apply that format to my blog as well?

    Thanks

Only by editing the various template files – index.php, archive, php etc.
