• Hi,

I have put together a website using wordpress, I am competent in the installation and also my way around the backend using pages, posts, and all the other necessary plugins and add-ons.

I have good knowledge of HTML & CSS, What I’m asking is does anybody recommend a training course UK based or what methods I can take to get away from using themes designed by other people and create my own or customise others to put my own mark on them.

I’m not sure if this is the correct place to be asking but if anyone could help it would be appreciated.

    Many Thanks

    Anthony

  • There is a web based school W3 Schools that I use for help with coding. It may be a little too basic though, but they do have certifications for CSS, HTML, etc.

Thanks for that Nick I have seen the W3 Schools it’s a really good site,

Ideally though i’m after Intermediate – Advanced WordPress Training,
More Backend I think it’s a great tool WP and would really like to master it.

I’d eventually like to create my own themes or at least a Theme lol ??

PHP is maybe my next move ???

    Thanks

    Anthony

Definitely PHP. All the themes I’ve looked at and use are written in PHP. That and Javascript.

I too have a good understanging of CSS and HTML, but PHP…that’s all Greek to me, LOL.

    Good luck with your education!

    Cheers Nick,

Do you work as a web developer or is it a hobby ?

    Anthony

    No, it’s just a hobby.

I’m a structural engineer and last year felt it was time to have a website to promote my business.

The hound dog site was a gift to my wife. We started out with a single bloodhound puppy and over the next year and a half ended up with two more bloodhounds and a mixed breed (black lab/pit bull). There wasn’t a really good one stop website that had info. specifically on hounds. So we’re giving it a shot.

It is a fun hobby and I’ve learned a lot about hounds and also about writing code.

Well done,,, ?? your website looks really good.

Same for me really I’m a Surveying Instrument technician, but there is just an addiction to learn coding and web design at the minute :).

It’s a good feeling when you get a website up and running or a new technique learned lol!!!
I don’t know if it’s just me but using themes designed by other people
Somehow feels like cheating, they are excellent and do allow certain amounts of customisation but i think it would be great to design and develop my own theme.

I think PHP looks a bit of a daunting task at the minute though.

Hopefully I will one day master web design who knows lol!!!

You should take a look at Lynda.com

i’m about to embark on one and they look pretty decent and I’ve heard good things.
