• Hello,

I have been browsing around online for plugins and options for interactive maps and the only concepts I could find were maps that already had a default [end] location that a user could simply type in their address and get a route to where the location of the website holder is. Such as a restaurant giving directions where it is.

What I am looking for is an interactive map that users that are registered to my website can go to, drop pins at locations they are aware of as well as browse cities where locations are currently pinned.

If that doesn’t make sense, I will try to give and example. Suppose I want my website’s sole purpose to show where every Chick-Fil-A is in any possible city in the US. Instead of me having to go to each Chick-Fil-A in each city and doing it myself on Google Maps or such, and assuming that registered users to my website are proactive, I would want the users to have the capability to add a pin or an address to the map in their city; utopian people sharing the different locations for Chick-Fil-A.

Is this possible in the realm of WordPress or am I better off looking elsewhere?

Did I post in the wrong section or is it that no one is able to provide an answer?

Is there a different option I have for finding this out?

    did you find a solution?

Curious if you found a solution as well. I am looking for something similar.

any luck with this? I realize torndownunit asked about a month ago, but I’m looking for the same thing as well. Ideally to be able to drop a pin at the location they are currently at (outside the Chic-Fil-A)
    Thanks

Sorry for not getting back to everyone. I wasn’t aware that people were curious. I spent a few months communicating with someone from https://www.flashimap.com/ about it and I ended up not heading in that direction because of the price. The quote varies from person-to-person depending on what you want done though.

    Good luck in your searches.

Not too crazy about anything flash. Would prefer JQuery or something like that.

From my first explorations into the Google Maps API, what you’re looking for is possible, but it would take a bit of programming wizardry to pull it off.

It sounds to me like you wish to crowd source a database of locations with and identifier to designate its category (such as books, coffee, etc). I see no reason WordPress couldn’t be a perfect interface to this database. If you want users to send their current location to the mothership, this is called “geolocation”, and it’s optionally enabled when you load the API.

I don’t know if such a plugin exists yet. It might.

Otherwise, you have to code it yourself (if you know how), or hire someone to do it. Expect to pay in at least four figures for a complete and polished implementation.

If you decide to hire someone, send me your rfp. ??
