Hi- I created a duplicate of my self-hosted wp site for testing. It is hosted on the same server in a different directory. The sql file for the new site was edited according to instructions, so its internal links and permalinks reflect its current url (www.mysite/testing). When I mouse over the new, duplicate site’s page links it shows the correct destination url (www.mysite/testing/about) at the bottom of the browser (Firefox) but instead goes back to the live site (www.mysite/about).

I would imagine its a caching issue?

  • check your .htaccess file

There doesn’t seem to be an .htacess file in either the root install directory or the test directory. Which is weird because both are running with cleaned up permalinks. I have my ftp browser set to show hidden files, but no sign of the file.

Mmmm. Ok. I double checked the setting on my browser. Set to show hidden files? Yep. I unchecked this option, then checked it again and then suddenly the .htaccess file appeared in the root directory. And there doesn’t seem to be one in the duplicate testing directory.

I opened the .htacess file locally, in text edit, and its blank. Should I copy this file over to the new directory to solve the issue?

try letting wordpress regenerate one by refreshing your permalinks.

    Yep. That did the trick.

Thanks so much for your help!
