• On my web site, I have seven people writing. There are seven days in the week. At least around these parts. I was wondering if there is, or could be, a way to restrict people so that they can only write on a certain day? It may seem a bit frivilous but it would really save me a lot of headaches.

I was just curious. Thank you for your time.

  • What’s frivolous to me…

What you’re asking is possible, with caveats.

First, it requires source editing (i.e. hacking) of the WordPress core. Something like this *might* be do-able as a plugin, but I’m neither sure how useful it would be generally, nor how one would go about making it work *as* a plugin.

Second, and more important, is to answer a question: how deep do you want to go in this sort of restriction? A moderately easy hack would be to hide certain admin menu items (such as Create) from users based on the days of the week, but it wouldn’t be all that hard to get around it (by calling up the correct URL).

The people who write for me aren’t too computer savvy. It’s one of the reasons I use blogging software rather than writing the code by hand like I used to before my web site turned into a communist free-for-all.

Basically, my question was posed out of anger, anger that I am constantly having to change timestamps on other peoples entries who can’t seem to be bothered with reading a calendar.

But it would be a pretty cool hack. Maybe it would spawn interest in daily blogs with assigned days. Eventually, I, the creator of said structure, would be too big for my own britches. I would be on Fox News in a segment somewhere between the latest identify theft scare and whatever Michael Jackson is doing this week. The chicks would show up in truckloads. Truck loads!
