• hello there ??

i just want to post another issue which happened to me quite a few times.

currently running the latest version 3.2 but this error is actually happening every time i upgrade WP to a newer version.

one of my multi sites ALWAYS looses the permalink structure! i use a custom structure like this -> /%category%/%postname%-%post_id%.html

and whenever i do an upgrade the permalink is gone and i get a 404 not found error.

then i just go to the settings -> permalinks … select default -> save
then insert the custom permalink structure again and click save again and all is fine again ??

but it is really sort of annoying to loose the permalink structure after EVERY upgrade. ok we can easily fix this be doing this default settings save and update settings again save thingy …

but probably someone can look into this and hopefully fix it?

    thanks & all the best

  • There’s a plugin flushing your rewrite rules.

    hi andrea,

    thanks for your reply …

don’t think that a plugin is flushing my rewrite rules in the htaccess file, because then all other sites would be affected by this, which actually isn’t the case

but i think a WP upgrade somehow might flush the settings for that multi site … or a plugin could cause that … in the database table ‘options’

sadly i don’t have much time to dig deeper into that. will keep on updating the permalink structure after every upgrade ..

but thought perhaps you guys would know about a fix for this issue

    anyway … thanks a lot

The main rewrite rules aren’t in the htaccess file. The htaccess rules only redirect queries to the index file. The rewrite rules are located in the database, and you likely have a plugin causing the problem.

where can i find those rewrite rules in the database? in the ‘options’ table?

In the wp_options table under the rewrite_rules field.
