The Event Caliendar Plugin

I have installed and activated “The Event Calendar” plugin. I can view my events such as
https://www.teamsoundpony.com/?cat=3

but I can not seem to add the event calendar to my “calendar” page.

my calendar page uses a template page called events.php I was previously using a different calendar so there is the following code in the template file:
<?php
tern_wp_events();
?>

I think I have just completely confused myself.
