I have a website that I have WordPress installed on as well as a shopping cart theme (this is for a client) as of recently whenever I visit the site I get this message:

“Fatal error: Cannot redeclare _http_build_query() (previously declared in /home/rbd_main_1014/thesweetstrap.com/wp-includes/compat.php:18) in /home/rbd_main_1014/thesweetstrap.com/wp-includes/functions.php on line 1411”

Can anyone tell me what’s going on? And what’s the best way to fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

  • What did you update to get this error? In the meantime create a page and put it in the root directory called index.html and let it say the site is down for maintenance and will be back up soon. You DONT want your client or their clients seeing this!

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). Don’t forget the ones in mu-plugins. If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

I fixed it. It seems WordPress hadn’t fully installed when it was updating. Just re-installed everything by hand via ftp and Viola it was fixed.

    Thanks for the suggestions!!
