  • Any comments on my attempts to use wordpress would be appreciated. It’s not really finished, but I’m really impressed at the speed you can get things done in 1.5, esp. the new pages feature. The url is: https://www.pembsdoe.org.uk Particularly interested to see if any of it messes up on Mac/safari ???

    I’ve used it for a while now but my lovingly customised wp experiments used to turn out fairly similar to the kubrick that comes with 1.5 so I’m going to stick with that for now. At the moment, we’re just looking to get the other volunteers interested and regularly contributing content so I can get on with tweaking the design and fixing the little things that annoy me…

    bbPress is going to be a likely addition once it gets released to the kids. If anybody knows of good wp/gallery compatible hosting for charity/non-profit sites in the uk, please get in touch.

  • Glad you are having fun with WordPress. Your site does indeed resemble the Default WordPress Theme, which is fine, but you might want to consider changing the sidebar to something a little more….bright. The rotating header images are great and they add some “pop” to the look, but it would be nice to have some pop in the sidebar, either with graphics instead of those arrows as list images, or a colorful bar, or something that brings the sidebar into the overall theme of the header art.

    The php gallery you have included is nice and looks great, though I’d like to see the “occassion” as the “title” rather than the year, but that’s a detail.

    Over all, it’s a simple site, clean and looks fine, but it feels disconnected, and bringing some graphic pop into the sidebar and footer would really help.

    aha ! Thanks for the tips. Yeah you’re right about the sidebar, I was working on that when I posted since we only just registered the url. Little test image looks ok, but still needs tweaking. (Huge search button shifts it in IE, can I use ie css to style it smaller ??)

    Kids do their qualifiers in a certain year so the gallery has to be like that, I think it’ll be ok when it starts filling up and doesn’t look so spartan.
