• Attempted an install of 3.2.1 on a site hosted free on GoDaddy, and had this issue with the admin panel. Saw that the php on the account was 5.0 rather than 5.2.4 so I pulled 3.2.1 and uploaded 3.0.4 which I had downloaded previously. Same issue. Changes still take effect, but the format is just unworkable – any ideas? (I’ve built a couple sites with WordPress but this is the first time I’ve worked with GoDaddy or uploading everything from scratch).

  • You are missing the style sheet(s). Delete the wp-admin and wp-includes folder. Download a fresh copy of 3.0.4 here, and upload those folders to the server. DO NOT bother wp-contents.

    kellydelp,

I wanted to jump in and clarify the situation with PHP on your server… All GoDaddy.com shared hosting accounts (except some very specific/older Windows accounts) have the necessary PHP version to run WordPress 3.2+. For simplicity, we may not display the full PHP version number, but it’s there.

You should know, though, that our free hosting plans (the ones with the ad banner at the top) are not 100% compatible with some apps, including WordPress. I don’t think the problem you’re seeing is because of the banner, but I’d expect you to run into other issues once that is corrected. I don’t mean for this post to be a sales effort just to get you to upgrade to a paid plan, but it’s important that you know the free one won’t work properly.

FYI, if you do get a paid plan, we have a WordPress Hosting plan that automatically installs the app for you so you can’t make any mistakes with a manual install. There’s also a way to auto-install the app even if you don’t get the “WordPress Hosting” plan (but it’s not available on the free plan because of the known issues) – this short help article shows how to do it: https://x.co/YOz3

Free hosting, generally, should be avoided if you intend to run WordPress.
