• Hi guys….

    I’ve just installed Multi-site (with sub-directories).

What I need is for each new site (e.g. /site1, site2, etc) to be able to have its own domain mapped.

So for example, https://www.xxx.com/site1 = https://www.site1.com .. and so on.

I’ve tried to install the domain mapping plugin to do this, but get the following error message when logging in:

“The domain mapping plugin only works if the site is installed in /. This is a limitation of how virtual servers work and is very difficult to work around.”

I am hosting with HeartInternet (we have a reseller account), which is indeed a virtual server , but having contacted them they said there should be no issue with domain mapping multiple sites.

Is there something I have done wrong in the set up?

(It’s worth pointing out at this stage that when installing multi-site, I wasn’t given the option to install sub-domains, only sub-directories.. ideally I would like to use sub-domains)

    Many thanks in advance.

    Andrew

That’s actually saying ‘Hey, you installed WP in a folder (i.e. domain.com/wordpress). It doesn’t really work well that way.’

So did you install WP in a subfolder?

    Hey guys..

    thanks for the quick replies.

I actually hadn’t installed it into a folder, but because I was using a test IP rather than a domain name, it was adding a 2nd level in…..

Schoolboy error I think you call it ??

    Thanks for the help!
