Private Photos in a WordPress Gallery

I’ve been trying to figure out how I can set up a photo gallery in wordpress using the [gallery] shortcode and have some of the photos in the gallery be viewable only by registered users. I have just a standard wordpress install (not multi-user).

I’m having a hard time finding any information on how I can do this. Is it possible? If not, is there a plugin that will let me do this?
