how to find out the layout of a custom theme before dl

    I am a total nube to wordpress but I think I got a handle on the admin panel more or less .

    I would like to know if there is a way to view the layout template of a theme without having to download and install it .

    For instance if I want to know if there is a custom container where you can install a plug in just below the header such as a custom search bar , how can I find out if a template layout has such an element before dl ing it , or is there a way I can search for it I get cold fingers when it comes to editing source code.
