Great plugin for desktop/laptop users … not so great for anyone using Safari’s mobile browser (installed on millions of iPhones).

Why? If ‘Stumbleupon (any style)’ is enabled, along with all/some/none of the other social network options (Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn), (“Slide Out” type) the page will freeze upon the loading of this plugin.

Also, after the plugin does load (minus Stumbleupon), if it overlaps any text/images/objects in the area it is overlapping, watch out — as it *does not* scroll with the user. Basically, the user would have to click around, until they find the ‘share’ button at the top, which, when clicked, will move slightly lower/higher on the screen.

    Here’s the deal:

You will see the page entirely load. Once the page content loads, the plugin will then load, which freeze the entire screen and displays nothing but a small ‘Stumbleupon’ icon.

    Here’s the kicker:

If you remove Stumbleupon, IT WORKS! Well, what I mean by “works” is that the page doesn’t go blank after loading completely and the Google+ tool doesn’t appear. Other than that, the plugin functions somewhat normally. It is definitely not the same as using Firefox on Mac/PC, that is for sure.

Unfortunately, Stumbleupon was the dealbreaker for choosing this plugin and not interfacing well with iOS / Safari (mobile) is basically unacceptable as iOS 5 approaches.

    Please update ASAP.

Also, does anyone know if this is the same deal on iPod Touch and iPad? How about Android devices?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

    Thanks for the explanation.

Unfortunately it wasnt tested for mobiles. I will try and find out why stumbleupon in particular is causing problems. Unfortunately not having a mobile to test it on may make it hard to discover.

Are there problems with both floating and the sticky tabs?

    Hi,

I think I have found the cause of the problem – the stumbleupon script that creates the iframe for the button seems to be doing strange things in Safari – possibly related to Safari’s interpretation of when to initialise the jQuery.

I have changed the stumbleupon code so that it no longer calls the iframe via javascript but writes it directly into HTML. Seems to work OK now but would be grateful if you could please confirm that mobile is OK.

Updated version 1.2 – should be available for download in about 15 mins. Update also adds Digg to the options

    Thanks

    Thank you for your update!

We’ve upgraded to version 1.2.5 and have included Stumbleupon on a “slide out” version, which seems to be working properly.

However, the Google+ button does not display on Mobile Safari. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

…also, is there any way to have the vertical+count version of the LinkedIn share button sized to match Facebook/Google+/Twitter/Stumbleupon? That would be great ??

    Hi,

I will check the google site to see if any reason why it shouldnt appear. Have not heard of any other issues with google +

The buttons are generated by each sites API so this is the standard size for linkedin unfortunately

Checking the plugin today, it seems as though the Vertical + Count twitter button is displaying as the Horizontal + Count button.

This has been replicated in Firefox 6.0, mobile Safari (iPhone/iPad), Safari 5.1 (mac) and IE9.

Also, just wanted to confirm that the Google+ button does not display in Mobile Safari for the iPad either.

    Cheers!

The vertical + count twitter button has been tested and definitely displays correctly as can be seen on all of the demos on the plugin site https://www.designchemical.com/blog/index.php/wordpress-plugins/wordpress-plugin-slick-social-share-buttons/

Perhaps we should have stated that we’re still using the following options:

    Type: Slide Out
    Location: Left
    Offset: 50px
    Direction: Vertical
    Default Skin: Y
    Slide Speed 600 (ms)
    Auto-Close: Y
    Load Open: N

    Please see screenshot HERE.

    Thx!

The options above shouldnt change the type of button shown, they are only controlled via the button settings. If you browse to the demos I listed above do you see a vertical or horizontal button?

If the former then there is obviously something locally preventing the vertical option from being saved in the back end since I cant see any cause that would change the button on the front end.

Maybe try disabling other plugins one by one to see if this helps. We havent come across a similar problem before

If you check the source code for the tweet button does it have the vertical or horizontal parameter – the code looks similar to:

    <li id="dcssb-twitter" class="size-box"><a href="https://twitter.com/share" data-url="https://t.co/ZQB8Ukr" class="twitter-share-button" <strong>data-count="vertical"</strong> data-via="designchemical"></a></li>

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Please see our button configuration here. This is what it looks like on-site.

This is a portion of the code extracted from our site which does reference a vertical selection.

    class="twitter-share-button" 11="data-count="vertical""

It would also help to mention that today the facebook button is not showing properly either — Google+ is however!

    Hi,

I think the facebook problem is an issue with facebook as Im also seeing the same thing with other sites with different plugins

Is this the exact code you are seeing in the source code for the twitter button as there is an error although I cant find any way it would appear from the plugin – any chance you can email me a file of the page source code or the site URL so I can take a look?

It looks like Facebook is back in working condition, but Google+ is gone in Firefox (Mac/PC) and showing a Red (!) in mobile Safari (iPad/iPhone)… It looks great in Safari (Mac) and IE9 however (except for Twitter that is) ??

    Hey remix4,

Any word on why Twitter is still showing ‘horizontal + count’ on our site? We have updated to the newest version as well.

    Thanks!

The google error is from google. Hopefully this will rectify itself soon

The twitter URL in your source code has been rewritten by something. Do you have any functions or plugins, which rewrite URLs – possibly one that adds target=”_blank” to external links?
