I have been working for about a month with a WordPress site on a local server (MAMP).
A few days ago I did upload it to our server. But first I edited the wp-config.php-file so it should work on the server. I logged in to the page and saw the disaster. All I had done was gone. The only thing that was left were some few test pages i had done in the beginning of my website project, that was deleted long time ago.

Luckily I made a backup of the site before it got uploaded, but when i am opening it on the MAMP server it does not work either.

I am really frustrated about this and wonder if there is some way to restore the site to how it was berfore or do I have to remake the whole thing.

Please help me!! The website I have been writing about is toreproduction.com

  • When you made the move did you move the database as well as the files?

Well if I understand you right. Should I have edited anything else than the wp-confiq.php. Because all I did was that.

WordPress contains two part really – the php files which includes the wp-config.php file and all the files that make WordPress work including themes and plugins etc. It also runs off a database (MySQL) which stores all the data for your site like the contents (text) with your posts etc. and other stuff.

When moving the site you need to move both things – the files and the database. Take a look here:

Have tried all that. I can use and see everything as usual except for my old pages and posts as I said before. Will try to rebuild all pages again, if you are not having any option.

But thanks anyway for taking your time helping me. I am 90% sure that I have done everything right. Guess I have some work tonight ;).

    Hi Tore
This sounds strange(that you lost the posts & pages in your local install)
Do you have a backup of your database? Are you using TimeMachine on your Mac?
I would try to fix the local instal first and then move the site.

We have given up this and are rebuilding all pages. It is not that much work cause we know how most pages was. But we have uploaded everything and hope the site will work good now.

Of course this is strange, but I guess it must be something I have done by mistake. Unfortunately I do not know.

Thank you for all help anyway. It made me open up my eyes and learn something. As said before I am a newbie in WordPress.

    Thanks again.
