• I have WP multisite setup with Buddypress. I have this box checked:

    – Users must be registered and logged in to comment

Even so, I’m still getting spam from a user that ISN’T registered and clearly can’t be logged in.

    I’m using the MYSTIQUE theme.

Any ideas where the problem could be?

    Thanks!

This is, probably, not a MultiSite problem.

Are they comments or pings, first off?

and WHERE are you getting the spam from? In the comments? in the activity stream? in PMs? Lotsa places for spam to show up – narrow it down.

also, if you have a spam *user* – they can be logged in too. SPAM the user.

To get to it, I login as network admin, click SITES, click on “X” users site dashboard, and it’s right there on that screen awaiting moderation.

Not sure how to tell if it’s comment or trackback spam. It’s listed under RECENT COMMENTS.

    What should I look for?

To be clear, this is not coming from the activity stream. This is a user created blog (one on my network), they wrote one post on their blog and that post has spam comment on it.

Here’s a screenshot from the COMMENTS dashboard:

Do you have that box checked on the SUB SITE that has the spam comment? Checking it now will not get rid of the exisiting comment (which is in moderation btw)

Andrea yes.. Both the main site and the sub-site had that option checked prior to the comment spam that i mentioned.

So this is ONLY happening on one subsite?

Are you sure the sub-site STILL has that box checked?

Can’t really do any further troubleshooting until you get another spam show up.

Sorry guys.. I’m now waiting for the next spam message and ready to report it here when/if it comes.

Until then, YES, so far I’ve only seen it on one subsite and YES that box is still checked.

Thanks for the help Ipstenu and Andrea…
