    Hi there,
I have searched the forums and am unable to find an answer for this question.

After being unable to find a simple left hand nav theme to customise, I was hoping to use the Twenty Eleven theme.

Can anyone advise on how to move the top nav menu to the left hand side so I have a left hand menu?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress 3.2 theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues.

Create a child theme for your customisations. Once your child theme is active, we should be able to help with the customisation.

    Hi esmi,
Thanks for your reply. Sorry I should have mentioned I have created a child theme which so far only consists of style.css.
Any further info would be appreciated.
    Cheers

The kind of design change that you want to make is quite difficult and would involve a lot of CSS re-coding and possibly a fair bit of HTML & PHP too.

Are you able to provide any information on what is required? Am happy to make changes but I don’t know what to change.
    Thanks

To be honest, I think that’s beyond what would be reasonable to do via a forum.

Have the same problem as linguine999.

I’d appreciate any guidance (links, instructions, warnings, alternate themes, etc.) anyone can provide in order to move the top navigation menu to the left side.

    Cheers.

idearius, this topic is closed so you probably won’t get a response from anyone. I gave up on trying to move the menu and picked a left hand theme to use instead. There aren’t many of them though. I ended up using Blue Grey White theme which you can find at: https://www.ads-software.com/extend/themes/blue-grey-white

    Good luck!

    Hi, and thanks for answering.

Actually, the topic is not closed (that’s why you could answer), and I posted specifically to keep it from closing. There must be some other people out there with the same needs.

The theme you pointed me to seems to be using a Pages list, not a Menu, as the old WordPress did. That’s one of the routes I took solve the problem: styling the Pages widget, but it’s more like a patch than a real solution.

I’ll post here if I find something more on this.

    Cheers.

Another WP fan has just recommended me this plugin: jQuery Vertical Mega Menu.

It seems to do the trick and comes with a ton of presentation options.

Will install it and check it right now…

I need this exact same “fix” for the same template, going to try your plugin option.

    Thanks for posting the question!
