• I have recently set up a blog on a shared hosting web site (superb) via webmatrix and updating via livewriter.

The front page shows the blog address, but all the other pages show the local host address and these pages are only accessible while webmatric is open.

There is a url setting in the administration general settings area which might provide a clue, but last time i tried to change these settings i ended up not being able to get back into administration and having to redo the whole thing.

    Any ideas?

  • The urls in Settings>>>>General are suppose to be where you installed your wordpress root or a folder after domain name.

Are you able to give that to me in layman’s terms?

I changed the site address url to the blog site and it shows on the web now, but there is still one problem – when i access the blog on another computer none of the page themes are showing. They are only showing on my computer.

So my site is not being properly uploaded to my host provider for some reason and all the docs provided by word press are written in techno language that really mean little or nothing to me…..

I changed the other url to my blog address and now i cannot access the administration site. I am going to have to redo everyhting. What the f is happening?

Is this a online host account if so who is the host and is this a window server as Your domain name once set up should not have this problem you having.

    Superb is the host.
    DOmain name is set up.
    SQL is set up.
But word press is a pain and so is my host.

I do not understand why you want to use webmatrix to install wordpress I see that they have linux server so all you need to do is upload wordpress files and folders to the location you want root or folder
create a database and run install program that is included in wordpress.

how? Layman’s terms. None of this should be difficult if wordpress took a moment to put things down in terms that non tech experts can deal with.

Because you move your database from your local pc to a remote server, all references to “localhost” in your database need to be replaced with your actual domian name.

How to publish a web application using WebMatrix

You may want to consult the WebMatrix documentation, or possibly the WebMatrix support forum.

If I’m reading your questions correctly, you have an issue of dissatisfaction stemming from a deployment of WordPress using WebMatrix, not with WordPress itself, so bashing WordPress might be altogether premature at this point.

    Installing WordPress

    Famous 5-Minute Install

    Detailed Instructions

For example note the following guidance: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Settings_General_Screen

“WordPress address (URL) Enter the full URL of the directory containing your WordPress core application files (e.g., wp-config.php, wp-admin, wp-content, and wp-includes). For example, if you installed WordPress into a directory called “blog”, then the WordPress address would be https://example.net/blog (where example.net is your domain). If you installed WordPress into your web root, this address will be the root URL https://example.net. WordPress will trim a slash (/) from the end. If you defined the WP_SITEURL constant in your wp-config.php file, that value will appear in this field and you will not be able to make changes to it from the WordPress administration screen. “

Point 1 – by full address does this mean the full address of the sql database on my host provider or is it the full address of the directories on my computer?

It has nothing to do with your database. It is the web address of your WordPress site, where others can find you. It means your domain name. https://www.yoursite.com

If you put the wordpress files in a sub-directory named “blog” it would be https://www.yoursite.com/blog.

The example makes no mention of the database. https://codex.www.ads-software.com/images/6/61/options-general.png

All references to your database name, address, database user name and password, are configured in the wp-config.php, as outlined in step 4 of Famous 5-Minute Install

I deleted the wordpress account from my computer and reinstalled, but still no luck. Cannot even open up the web admin anymore and have tried to delete files on remote host but no successs. A nightmare.

So now i cannot even set up a non functional wordpress blog…. will not even allow me to set up a new name

To install wordpress on your computer you need a server installed first it can Wamp if you use windows, Mamp if you use
Mac or lamp if you are using linux.

I have article on my website (click on name) on how to install Wamp and make changes so that you can work with wordpress locally.

I thought you said you are trying install on your Superb host if so see if you can ask them to switch you to a linux server as wordpress works best on linux as windows servers do have problems and you need to be tech to figure out on windows server.

thanks for all the above but as later posts show i cannot even go through the reinstall process…
