• Hi guys

OK so i am trying to uploading images from my camera to my site but everytime i do i get the following error message:

Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 31195136) (tried to allocate 13056 bytes) in /homepages/23/d345481795/htdocs/LU Barbers/wp-includes/media.php on line 254

the image ends up in my media library but i cant seem to resize it.

I searched around the forums and found a few posts about this but no solution that works.

I have already modified the php.ini file and the wp-config.php file to increase the file size and it makes no difference.

when the site was hosted on my laptop the image loads fine so it seems to be an issue with it uploading online

I have contacted my host (1and1.co.uk) but they have yet to reply

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • First of all. Images from a camera are usually very large (not web friendly). Most digital cameras have anywhere from 2mb-15mb images.

If you use an ftp uploader you will be able to get the images online. But otherwise you will be restricted to your memory allocation of the server.

You can try the plugin https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/memory-bump/ and see if that does anything to raise your memory limit.

    Hi sterling

Well here is the thing some users of my site are technophobes (its difficult enough explaining to them how to use wordpress to create their posts) they wont be able to use an ftp to upload their images.

i need them to be able to upload their photo’s onto a image gallery/portifolio sort of thing.

now if they use the flash uploader in wordpress the image gets uploaded but it cant be re sized to create thumbnails for the portfolio so the gallery page looks all messed up

i tried memory bump it didnt really help. (my photos all upload 100% its when they are ‘crunching’ that it returns the error)

Just got an email from 1and1 they say its a memory issue so i guess nothing else can be done about it. i will have to decrease the image size before uploading
