    I’m a total newbie with WP and I’m trying to get Adsense on my site. I have tried following the directions on google using the “code view” or “html insert” instructions. Am I supposed to insert my Adsense code into the HTML code on my blog site? Sorry if this sounds a little dense, I’m so confused.

  • first, define where you want the ads to show;
    (where and how to add the adsense code wil depend on the location)

    check the available adsense plugins, these might be able to place the ads where you want them;

    also commonly used: add the adsense code into a textwidget to have the ads show in the sidebar.

    i would like to either use a horizontal banner above my header or a vertical skyscraper to the right…i want them to be “outside” of my page if that makes sense…ie. in the background, not on my actual page where i have posts

    which is where i’m getting confused on how to insert them?

    …i want them to be “outside” of my page

    that would be a pure html/css adaptation, and has nothing to do with wordpress;

    you possibly need to add the changes to header.php

    Thanks Alcymyth…I actually was successful in adding the code in the text widget on the side. So if I would want to add one in the header somewhere, or anywhere else besides the side bar, I need to use a plugin?
