Add from Server Plugin – Large File

  • Good afternoon, just looking for some advice from the wordpress wizards out there. I have uploaded a large .wmv file through ftp to my wordpress root. I can see it there. I was going to use the add from server plugin which takes it from the host into my media file so we can use it on the site. Everytime time I try to do it I get this error message:
    Internal Server Error
    The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
    Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
    More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

    Is there anything I can do to fix this. Or, can anyone advise another way to be able to host large .wmv (812mb) on a site? We are not using you tube as the files are not for general access.

    2 things I can suggest trying:
    1. Upload the file into the wp-content/uploads/ folder directly, and then import it into the install.
    2. Even if the above works, Can you check your PHP Error logs for the exact PHP error which is causing it?

    Thanks Dion! I moved it straight to the uploads file and now there is no error. The other problem I am encounting is when you now click on the link (and it is the one direct to the media file) it opens in a new page and starts downloading to my pc? We want to use this for people to view, but as it is a 812mb file we want people ot be able to just click on it and watch it and not download it – any suggestions?

    You’ll need to use some sort of flash-based video player I assume for that. I don’t have any suggestions of what to use, or what would support wmv files.

    how to make a video get bigger when watching it and stay smaller size before clicking to watch it…thanx in advance
