• Can you have a index page at your url and it be a wordpress blogsite and then within your website have a link to a page within your domain that is a whole different wordpress blogsite?

  • Sure. You can create a wordpress install in the root directory. And then you can install another wordpress installation into another directory, such as wordpress/secondsite.

@josh – And then I can link to the wordpress/secondsite from the install in the root directory? Probably a dumb question but do you have any sample sites or forums on the subject telling how?

I’m not sure what you mean by this??

I mean, I have my main site at https://www.joshlobe.com. And then I have a test site at https://www.joshlobe.com/testsite

What is it you are trying to link from… to…. ??

…from the wordpress site set up in the root directory to the wordpress/secondsite directory. See I told you it was probably a dumb question.

If you are using a custom menu, you can make a custom link to the second blog. If you are not using a custom menu, you can install Mark Jaquith’s page links to plugin & create a dummy page which links to the second blog.

What I’d like to do is have my main blogsite on my server and within that site have a fully functional other blogsite if possible. Thanks

Yes. Install wordpress to your root directory. Then, create another folder in your root directory, and install wordpress again in that directory.

NOTE: You will need to create two separate databases. DO NOT use the same database for each site.

You can actually use a single database for two separate stand-alone installs as long as each instance of WordPress is set up to have its own unique table prefix.

That’s right. I forgot all about that. At what point in the install would you want to adjust the prefix?

Set it in the wp-config.php if you create one before the install or when prompted if a wp-config.php is not create manually
