Member profile pages

  • Hope someone can help me. I have a popular site which has about 480 members who can’t post but can write comments. I’d like to be able to create a profile page so that when a member’s name is clicked on, you can see their details from the profiles they’ve written (name/description/etc).

    I found this helpful link: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/35206 which is handy but I don’t want profiles seen in the comments themselves. I want to link to a seperate page.

    I’ve searched until my fingers have bled for this and keep coming up with stuff relating to authors profiles – but I’m the only author on my site. From what I can see, this would be something very popular with WordPress users.

    Could someone help/come up with a nifty solution?

    Since you’ve made it mandatory for registration before comments can be posted, there is no distinction between an author and a commenter. A registered commenter is just an user without the ability to post.

    The page goes on about it being for authors, but it does work to a limited degree for all registered users. What I’ve found so far, the template_tags won’t list non-authors and URLs like /author/joe won’t work either.

    But! ?author=id and ?author_name=joe do work

    Now I’m fairly sure I haven’t done anything else to get this much working, but then I’ve been mucking around with a variety of author and profile stuff lately…

    Someone else has figured out how to get those /author/joe URLs working (or perhaps it was fixed by a recent upgrade?) but hasn’t yet posted how it came to be fixed.

    Then it should just be a simple fix to change those “author” URLs to something more appropriate, hope that helps!
