• Ever since I started using WordPress earlier this year I’ve had trouble getting galleries to display how I want them. Particularly it doesn’t seem to matter how many columns I set, I just end up with whatever number fills up the width of the page!
    In this test site (https://aspirewebsolutions.co.uk/test-area/wpdemo/ecuador/) I’ve tried setting gallery columns to 3,4 and 6, but I always end up with 5.
    There are a few posts with similar issues but I can’t find the solution to this particular problem.
    Any ideas gratefully received!
    Janet

  • Hi janetwebdesigner,

    Are you using a plugin or the gallery shortcode:

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Gallery_Shortcode

    If you’re using a plugin, please let us know the name of the plugin. If you’re using the shortcode can you show us the code you are putting into your page?

    Thanks!

    Hi ChristiNi
    I’m not using a plugin. I’m using the standard WP add image/gallery function (which generates the shortcode: [gallery link="file" order="DESC" columns="4" orderby="title"]) but gives me 5 columns!
    Thanks!

    I can’t see the gallery css styles in your site;
    have you added any coding to suppress the gallery styles to be added to the content?

    Hi alchymyth
    I haven’t added any coding myself but it occurred to me that it could be the theme I’m using (I’ve had this problem with every theme I’ve used to date, which is why I hadn’t considered it before). So I just switched to theme Twenty Eleven and, lo and behold, I’ve got the number of columns I asked for!
    Thanks!

    Same problem here, no extra plugins for the gallery and it doesn’t work on WP 3.3
