How can I allow users to create their own posts AND upload media with it?

I would like my users to be able to create their own post and attach media to their posts such as word docs, excell file etc. How do I do this? Is there a plugin? Or perhaps another way?

I have spent a lot of time browsing through the plugins, but they all seem to revolve around users uploading images. I am a teacher and would like my users to upload lesson plans etc.
