Please Help! I want to allow guests/users to post and upload files.

  • I have spent hours trying to find a plugin or figure out a way to allow guests/users to create a new post and attach multiple kinds of files to their post.

    I have found plenty that allow the users to upload images. But I need my users to be able to upload other kinds of files as well.

    Any suggestions on a plugin or another way of allowing this. I want anyone to be able to post and upload.

  • I would (no plugin required):

    From Admin Panel:

    1) Allow Users to Register. Settings>General>Anyone can register

    2) Set New User Default Role.
    Settings>General>Anyone can register>New User Default Role (I suggest you leave the default role as subscriber – you will get an email about the new user…If you decide you trust them, then delegate that amount of trust in the role by editing them under Users.     3) Based on their role, users can do very little or everything (bad). As your trust in individuals increases, you can add more roles.

    4) To upload files, a User must be an Author at least.

    5) Allowing anyone to register and giving them a default role of Author or higher means they can upload malware to your site. Trust is important.
